History of Rasgulla:

In the year 2015 July, 30 Puri Bada pandas (worshipers of God Jagannath) declared this day Rasgulla Day on the day Lord Jagannath returns to “Niladri Bije”. Rasgulla is prepared from Cheese (Chhena) which is produced from milk.
According to history, Rasgulla was invented 300 years ago and it is offered as Bhog in Jagannath Temple and used for Goddess Mahalakshmi. According to history, Rasgulla originated in Puri and is named “Khira Mohana” Later it became the famous sweet in Odisha. Nowadays Rasgulla is prepared mainly in PAHALA (Bhubaneswar) & SALEPUR (Cuttack). Presently, canned Rasgulla is available all over India and in foreign countries.

Pahala and Salepur are the main hubs of preparing Rasgulla. A village Pahala is well known for Rasgulla which adopted this process from Puri and nowadays this village completely depends upon Rasgulla sweets & other cheese-based sweets.
Many foreign tourists come here for Lord Jagannath and especially to enjoy the sweet aroma and taste of Rasgulla.

Every Year Rasgulla Mohastav is celebrated on the date of Jan 14/15.
